Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that causes memory loss, cognitive decline, and behavioral impairment. Early diagnosis is essential to slow down disease progression and provide timely medical intervention. Traditional diagnostic procedures involve neurological evaluation and cognitive tests, which are often subjective and time-consuming. In this project, a Deep Learning-based Alzheimer Disease Detection System is developed using MRI brain images to achieve early and accurate diagnosis. The system uses Python with deep neural networks such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to classify MRI images into categories like Normal, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The model is trained on medical image datasets like OASIS or ADNI, and image preprocessing techniques such as resizing, normalization, and augmentation are applied to enhance performance. The system helps in automated and precise identification of Alzheimer’s indicators through MRI imaging, supporting radiologists and neurologists in medical decision-making.

Existing System
The existing healthcare system relies primarily on clinical examinations, neuropsychological assessments, and manual interpretation of MRI images by trained neurologists or radiologists. These evaluations are often subjective and prone to human error. Advanced imaging techniques are available but require experienced specialists, making diagnosis expensive and inaccessible in rural or under-resourced hospitals. Current detection often occurs at a later stage when brain degeneration is significant and treatment options are limited. Traditional machine learning-based diagnosis systems require manual feature extraction, which reduces model generalization and accuracy. Moreover, manual MRI interpretation is slow, inconsistent, and lacks automated screening capabilities for large patient records. Hence, the existing system fails to provide scalable, fast, and accurate Alzheimer prediction support.

Proposed System

The proposed system introduces a robust and intelligent Deep Neural Network-based Alzheimer prediction model using MRI brain scan images to achieve automated and efficient diagnosis. The system employs Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to automatically extract features from MRI images without manual intervention. It uses advanced architectures like VGG16, ResNet50, or custom CNN models to classify MRI scans into Normal, MCI, or Alzheimer’s. Python libraries such as TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV, and NumPy are used for model development, and GPU support accelerates training. The system processes MRI scans through noise removal, skull stripping, and intensity normalization before feeding them into the neural network. The model is evaluated using metrics like accuracy, precision, recall, and confusion matrix, ensuring high diagnosis reliability. A simple Flask or Streamlit interface can be added to allow users or hospitals to upload MRI images and get predictions instantly. This intelligent system enables early Alzheimer detection, reduces diagnostic workload, and supports AI-assisted healthcare.
